It's just like the Tube

I'm not sure, but I think there's a connection between people who make poor fashion statements and public transportation. For example, I just now got off the bus as a young lady was stepping on, wearing a battery powered belt with a neon blue scrolling marquee for its buckle. I didn't catch what it said, but a friend suggested it might have been "Supah Freak."

It's little things like this that remind me so much of London. I recall a few entries from my journal that semester, in which I encountered a 50+ woman with strawberry pink hair with a white stripe down the middle and another woman wearing, quite possibly, the last of the purple beaver species. Then, of course, there's the fight I saw between a boyfriend and girlfriend, which also stirred up racial tension on the train.

I tend to think it's a good thing to take advantage of the opportunities before me. Using public transportation cuts back on gas money, saves me the effort of parking, and puts tax dollars to good use. It would seem to be a fashionable thing to do - a statement of good sense, both financially and environmentally, yes? So why must this opportunity be overshadowed by an overwhelming amount of poor taste?
