A Little Bit of Ivory...

small world

This has been one of the strangest days ever. This morning started out kinda rough. I was driving to school, rolled my windows down to get the condensation off, and the passenger side front window got stuck, then fell into the door. I thought I heard it shatter, but when I got to the dealership in Winston-Salem this afternoon (Greensboro was all booked up. Meanies.), they were able to fix it in just two hours. And it was covered by warranty. That rocked. I was a little sad, though, that this was the first time my car has failed me. *tear* but just the one.

But that was just one strange event of the day. The next one was by far the most unusual. So you all know I have first-block planning, which totally sucks, but I deal. Well, there's also a British guy who uses my class during that period because he doesn't have a permanent room. He's in London right now interviewing, so he had to get a sub to cover his classes. Anyway, so I met the sub this morning, and he was very nice and friendly, and I was just kinda showing him the ropes and telling him what he's in for, and we both just kinda kept staring at each other, like we knew we should know each other, but couldn't place the other person.

Well, I ended up leaving to go to the library for my planning while he took over the hellians. When I came back at the end of class, I had a moment to speak to him. I said, "What's your name again?" "Matt H." "Did you go to Jackson Academy?" He just looked at me, wondering how on Earth I should know where he went to high school, much less that he went to high school in Mississippi. "Yeah?" "Oh my gosh, Matt, I'm Lauren. I went to JA, too. We graduated together!" "Ohhhhh, that's how I know you!"

Seriously, how much of a small world is this? This guy grew up in NC, moved to Jackson during high school, then went to App State for college while I went off to Elon. Now his folks live in Nashville, but he, like yours truly, wanted to live in the great state of North Carolina, aka God's Country. We knew each other in high school but never hung out. It's been seven years since we've seen each other, and obviously, we've both grown up a bit. It was just entirely strange. Anyway, he's coming back to sub tomorrow, so we'll get to chat more then.

And finally, when I got home tonight, I pulled into a parking space between two cop cars. Odd, yes. I finally spotted the cops, who were supervising an eviction on the floor below me. Can't say I've ever seen that happen before, but it was kinda funny to see all the people in the building peeking through their blinds to see what was going on.

And that, my friends, concludes this bizarre day.

Just got home to find that my building is out of hot water. I could use the model apartments, but not until 7am. I'll be at school by then. Man, it's gonna be cold in the morning!

PS: Going on week 2 with no voice. At least I'm not dead yet.

Oh the weather outside is frightful ...

Please note the time. And the fact that I'm writing here. Are you pondering what I'm pondering, pinky? Oh yeah, SNOW DAY!!! I just rolled out of bed, and I'm sitting on my sofa watching the soft blanket of snow grow fluffier every minute. We're supposed to have an optional teacher work day, but I decided not to go in. I can either take the loss as a sick day or make it up later by helping out with prom, graduation, or senior extravaganza. It is a glorious day.
